Heavy Duty Chandelier Winch Systems
Precautions to prevent the risks of working at height can be costly and disruptive. That’s why we offer a range of lighting hoist systems for chandeliers and other luminaires – making cleaning and maintenance simple, safe, and efficient.
Our Heavy Duty Chandelier Crane Range
The Penny Engineering heavy-duty chandelier hoist lift system range is designed to make maintenance and modifications safe, easy, and efficient. With just a single operator, you can lower and raise chandeliers and other assets without the need for costly and disruptive equipment like scissor lifts or scaffolding.
Our lighting hoists include single and multi-rope systems, supporting loads of up to 500kg, with bespoke options available for higher capacities. Some solutions incorporate Contact Suspension Units (CSU), isolating electrical feeds during maintenance at low level. For applications requiring continuous power, our innovative spring retraction reels keep fittings energised throughout the raising and lowering process.
In settings where aesthetics are crucial, we also offer chandelier cranes that can be hidden when raised to preserve the appearance of your space. Designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested in our UK factory, we ensure complete control over every step, delivering high-quality products you can trust.
- Maximum load capacity of 500kg (heavier, bespoke capacities available)
- Low operating noise level (below 46 dB(A) when loaded)
- 2 automatic configurable stop positions (more available on request)
- Lowering speeds from 1.2m/minute to 1.65m/minute
- Soft start/stop functionality
- Wired and wireless control options available

How to Choose Your Lighting Hoist
Why Choose a Multi-Rope Lighting Hoist?
Our multi-rope lighting hoist systems are ideal for larger and/or heavier loads, as well as directional light fittings / lighting bars that require multiple anchor points. They are also the best solution for raising and lowering objects where the weight is not distributed evenly, ensuring adequate support at all key points.
This range includes off-the-shelf products for lifting capacities of up to 500kg, alongside bespoke solutions for heavier loads.
Why Choose a Single-Rope Lighting Hoist?
Our single-rope lighting hoist systems are ideal for smaller and/or lighter loads that are symmetrical and can be supported by a single fixing point. The products in this range are available with either a 100kg or 500kg maximum load capacity, with a maximum standard lowering distance of 10m, with further lowering capacity available on request.
All our chandelier cranes have been designed and manufactured for straightforward installation by your contractors when our installation services are not required. The systems are also supplied with in-depth technical documents to assist with your planning leading up to the installation.

Who We Work With
Lighting Hoist FAQs
A fully bespoke lighting hoist system is typically ready to install approximately 6 weeks from design approval. Our self-contained “off-the-shelf” solutions can be ready to ship in less than a week.
Our UK electric chandelier cranes require a domestic, single-phase 230 Volt 50Hz power supply. We require this as a fused spur next to the winch control box.
For international customers, our chandelier hoist lift systems can be built to run on your local domestic or commercial power supply. Please indicate this when enquiring.
Depending on the lighting hoist system, there are two options:
When using a contact suspension unit (CSU), the electrical feed to the light fitting is broken when raising or lowering the item, until it is returned to the fully raised position.
When using a spring-operated cable reel, the cable reel pays out the electrical flex to the light fitting as it’s lowered to the ground and automatically retracts it when raising the fitting. This would keep the light energised throughout the raising and lowering process.
Electric chandelier cranes are controlled via a wireless remote-control handset, a removable handset that plugs into a wall socket, hard-wired controls mounted to a faceplate on the wall, or a building management system (BMS), such as Crestron or Lutron.
Manual chandelier cranes, on the other hand, are operated manually with a rotating hand crank or winch handle, whether permanently attached to the body of the hoist or removable should the winch need to be tamperproof (e.g., it’s located in a public area).
There are several criteria for selecting or designing the appropriate chandelier hoist lift system, including luminaire power requirements, shape and design, weight, lowering distance, control and operation, and lead time.
